Online Gambling is the process of placing a wager on a game of chance, such as online casino games, online poker or sports betting. While some countries prohibit gambling, others have legalized and regulated it. Many online casinos are operated by government-owned gambling authorities that monitor sites for compliance and ensure that the games are fair to their players. Players are advised to gamble only on legitimate betting sites, so they can be sure that their winnings are tax-free and they won’t fall prey to scams.
The use of the Internet to facilitate gambling is growing rapidly worldwide [2]. Despite its popularity, there are concerns that Internet gambling may lead to disordered gambling. Research is needed to understand why people transition to Internet gambling, as well as how to reduce the likelihood of a person’s online gambling becoming disordered. Some strategies that have been suggested include offering player-focused tools and resources for moderating play, including expenditure tracking, self-set spending limits, and time outs, and implementing tailored contacts derived from analysis of user accounts to identify risky behaviour.
A recent case in New Ashoka Nagar, East Delhi has highlighted how a gang of gamblers have been evading taxes by claiming their winnings from an illegal online gambling website. The manager and owner of the site, as well as 12 customers, were arrested by police officials for violating state gambling laws. The gang was reportedly operating the website through a server in the Mohawk Territory of Kahnawake, which provides its licenses to many online gambling platforms.
